MUTEC celebrates great success with new concept
It wasn't just the separate exhibition hall that catapulted MUTEC, the international trade fair for museum and exhibition technology, to a new level this year. With 122 exhibitors from 21 countries, the internationality of the trade fair increased significantly this year. The content of the specialist program also gained content. The MUTEC Award for outstanding exhibition design celebrated its successful premiere.
“Giving MUTEC its own hall for the first time and focusing it on two days was the right decision. The international trade fair has developed into the central meeting place for museum and exhibition technology,” summarizes Markus Geisenberger, Managing Director of Leipziger Messe. The wish of exhibitors and visitors after 2022 was to keep the duration compact. Philipp Orschler, Managing Director of Leipzig-based software developer cura3D, agrees that this has paid off: “The fact that the duration of the trade fair has been reduced to two days has resulted in a greater focus on visitors - something that should definitely be maintained.” Cura3D was once again present at MUTEC.
The spatial separation of denkmal and MUTEC can also be seen as a complete success. For the first time, MUTEC was represented in its own hall. For Sören Jakobshagen, Managing Director of MONUMEDIA GmbH, one thing is certain: “The trade fair concept was a complete success. Although we had enlarged our stand for this event, we were not always able to fully cover the huge response from the public. The atmosphere was pleasant and the trade visitors spent a lot of time at our stand. A consistently positive signal! Numerous in-depth discussions and concrete inquiries about our solutions make us certain that we can expect good business after the trade fair. We will definitely be back and are already looking forward to the next event.”
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) Deutschland e.V. is an important partner of MUTEC and a central player in the network of the museum world. Managing Director Anastasia Ziegler: “We had an enormous amount of visitor activity at our stand here and were able to network well. We are very pleased with the positive response and our presence. We were able to discuss our most important topics with visitors at the MUTEC Forum under the title 'Museums of the future: developing strengths from crises'. MUTEC is a good place to network with the museum world and create visibility. There is a pleasant atmosphere. We are already looking forward to MUTEC 2026!”
Successful start to the trade fair for new exhibitors
The exhibitors who took part for the first time are also impressed. The Managing Director of Barrierefreiheit GmbH, Tino Stockmar, says: “Even two years ago, when I was a visitor at MUTEC, I knew I had to be represented here as an exhibitor. Our aim is to present our flexible floor guidance system for blind people to museums. It worked brilliantly at our premiere in Leipzig. We experienced a fantastic response to our product and received consistently positive feedback from the trade visitors. We will definitely be back for the next event.”
Proklima GmbH / BRUNE air humidification also celebrated its MUTEC debut. Managing Director René Schneider summarized: “We are very happy with our participation in the trade fair. We were able to hold numerous qualified technical discussions. The spectrum ranged from detailed information to the initiation of business. The timing of the trade fair in November is ideal for us and very advantageous from a business point of view” and adds with a view to denkmal: ”As restorers are also among our customers, valuable intersections are created here. We will definitely be back next time.
Premiere for MUTEC Award
In the run-up to MUTEC, exhibition designers and museums from German-speaking countries were invited to submit their exhibitions from 2022 to 2024 to the MUTEC team. Together with VerA - Verband für Ausstellungsgestaltung e.V., the team presented the MUTEC Award for the first time. The award was presented to three exhibitions that stood out in particular in areas such as sustainability, inclusion and accessibility and that broke new ground in the presentation and communication of knowledge. The seven-member jury nominated the ten best from a total of 20 submissions. The prize of 500 euros was ultimately awarded to
- the “Museum Roter Haubarg” - an exhibition by the scenography agency TAUCHER for the North Friesland Foundation,
- “Immanuel Kant and the unanswered questions” - an exhibition at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn with Sunder-Plassman & Werner scenography and
- “Kiel du bist gefragt” - a participatory exhibition on the future of the Kiel City and Maritime Museum at the Stadtmuseum Warleberger Hof site by gwf exhibitions
Markus Geisenberger and Matthias Kutsch from VerA - Verband für Ausstellungsgestaltung e.V. presented the prizes to the lucky winners. They are confident that this is just the beginning of what they hope will be a long line of MUTEC Award winners.
Internationality and proportion of top decision-makers increase significantly
The international character of MUTEC is not only reflected in the exhibitors' countries of origin. Visitors came from 28 different countries, making MUTEC an international meeting place for the industry. The increased relevance of MUTEC is reflected in another development: the proportion of top decision-makers among all trade visitors has risen steadily over the years. While it was 44% in 2018, their share was already half at 50.9% in 2022 and increased again to 61.6% in 2024.A clear sign that the value of networking and discussions at the MUTEC stands has increased.
denkmal celebrates successful anniversary event
denkmal, the leading European trade fair for the preservation, restoration and renovation of historic buildings, took place alongside MUTEC.A total of 377 exhibitors from 16 countries celebrated a special anniversary with visitors, as denkmal was 30 years old. With five pillars of content that focused on current topics and challenges in heritage conservation and another huge specialist program with more than 210 events, the leading European trade fair once again lived up to its reputation as the industry's largest training event.
