The tasks of museums have expanded. According to the new definition of the International Council of Museums, the museum should also promote diversity and sustainability, as well as enable participation and reflection. Current positions call for a courageous or ‘political museum’ and see it as an instrument for promoting democracy.
But how are these demands currently being realised in museums? And what kind of work and attitude do we need from museums? This question is also essential for degree programmes that qualify students for museum work - as well as for associations and federations that also keep a close eye on the sector and support museums in their work. The museum study programmes at HTWK Leipzig and the Education and Outreach Working Group of the German Museums Association (DMB) invite you to an open exchange - about expectations and visions in the sense of ‘What do we pass on?’

- Winfried Bergmeyer, Collection Manager of the International Computer Games Collection gGmbH with many years of experience as a lecturer at the HTWK Leipzig
- Carla Klein, graduate of the bachelor's programme in museology
- Rahel Knittel, student of the Master's programme Education and Mediation in Museums
- Steffen Retzlaff, student of the Master's programme Education and Mediation in Museums
- Uta Pott, board member of the DMB and advisory board member of the Education & Mediation Working Group
