Conference programme highlights: Future viability of small museums and depot planning
Every year, the excellent conference programme at MUTEC attracts experts and interested parties to the Leipziger Messe. New impulses and exciting discussions are guaranteed here. This year, visitors can once again look forward to a wide range of topics. In addition to inclusion and accessibility, education and mediation or exhibition design, the programme will also focus on sustainability and depot planning.
Climate change, a shortage of skilled labour, social shifts - the list of current challenges facing all museums is long. Multiple crises influence the work in museums and require a new definition of these institutions. In his seminar "Future viability and sustainability for small museums", Prof. Dr Oliver Rump from the Berlin University of Applied Sciences will provide an overview of trends and challenges for the coming years and discuss recommendations for action for museum management with the participants - especially for smaller institutions, which make up the majority of German museums and are often located in rural areas. All aspects of sustainability will be considered: economic, cultural, social and ecological. Practice and theory will not be neglected in the event.
The seminar will take place on Friday, 8 November from 11:00 to 12:30 - registration is open from September via the MUTEC ticket shop.
The path to your own depot
How do I successfully and structurally set up a new storage system? How can the storage project become a success? Answers to these questions are provided by Swiss expert Dr phil. Joachim Huber from Prevart GmbH. He will be offering two different seminars on depot planning at MUTEC. In the workshop "Recording quantity structures for depot and storage technology planning in museums", Huber will define a reliable basis for the success of the planned depot project. The first step is to work out the so-called quantity structure - this also includes planning how much space will be needed in future, considering the growth of the collection, and which storage technology is appropriate for this. The workshop also outlines which data is crucial, how it is collected and which technical options are currently available on the market.
This seminar will take place on Thursday, 7 November from 10:00 to 12:30, registration is required. The participation fee is 145.00 euros per person, including admission to the trade fair, if you register HERE for the seminar.
The second seminar offered by Dr Huber is all about implementation. Entitled "The role of the user in depot planning - success factors / project development", it describes how the common thread between users, architects, planners and contractors is always maintained and how the depot project becomes a success. It is not only about relocation logistics or project organization, but also about interpersonal aspects and tips for successful communication between all those involved.
This seminar will take place on Thursday, 7 November from 13:30 to 16:00, registration is required. Again, the participation fee is 145.00 euros per person, including admission to the trade fair, if you register HERE for the seminar.
